To allow further phases to be inserted and to increase the mechanical copper filling factor, the windings are widened with the help of a forming machine and pressed into the bottom of the slot (intermediate forming). Once all phases have been inserted and the winding head has been fixed by lacing, the final forming process takes place (final forming).
